| The term junker is often used in poorly understood. It is very seldom that you can get a complete snapshot of such a family. Thanks to a descendent of the Haugwitz-Hardenberg-Reventlow family we have been given access to an unprecedented amount of pictures, documents and information, all flowing from Kurt Heinrich Eberhard Erdmann Georg Haugwitz-Hardenberg-Reventlow. This was clearly aristocracy. Much of this research came from members of GMIC. This is a set of community research! |
Schloss-Krappitz

There were actually six properties that were controlled by the family. The first five were in Silesia.
Schloss-Krappitz, Main house
Rogau
Straduna
Zuzella
Zywodczütz
These properties were confiscated
after WW II. This was common throughout Silesia after WWII.
Denmark: Krenkerup Slot (Castle) formerly Schloss Hardenberg

Georg Erdmann Karl Friedrich Graf von Haugwitz, *22.06.1848 +12.09.1897 was the father of Kurt *28.09.1895 (Gotha Gräfl. Taschenbuch 1915-394). Georg entered Kür. R 1 in 1865 and served with that regiment until 1877 when he transferred to KR 6. In 1885 he went to KR 5 and then KR 7 in 1891. Major 22.03.1889 His last assignment was as the commander of Ulan. R. 2 from 1894-1895. The picture at the left is of a company grade officer and show him in the uniform of either KR 1-look at cockardes. (KR 1 Stammliste entry #100)
Listed as an Oberleutnant (Premier-Lieutenant) a.D. in the 1914 Gräfliches Taschenbuch. He was awarded his EK2 as a Sekonde-Lieutenant in the Leib-Kürassier-Regiment (Schles.) Nr. 1. It would appear that he in fact retired as an Oberstleutnant. The 1914 list it seems erroneously listed him as an Oberleutnant a.D. He is shown as an Oberstleutnant in the 1942 list. He is shown in the regimental history of Kürassier-Rgiment Nr. 6 as having served in that regiment from 23 October 1877 until 10 June 1884 when he was transfered to Kürassier-Regiment Nr. 5 as a Rittmeister. |

Kurt Graf v. Haugwitz-Hardenberg-Reventlow was (the third of four children) commisioned into the Garde du Corps on 24.6.14. Graf v. Haugwitz entered the GdC at the outbreak of war as a Fahnenjunker and consequently was not listed in the last peacetime army list of May 1914. He was commissioned as a Leutnant ohne Patent on 21.2.15 later receiving seniority effective 24.6.14. The regimental history indicates that he served throughout the war with the regiment although being detached temporarily for service as a Divisional Orderly Officer in 1918.
The first two pictures have Kurt as an enlisted individual followed by the last one where he is commissioned. |

There is a tremendous amount of confusion caused by the existence of two Kurts. Kurt Heinrich Eberhard Erdmann Georg 28.9.1895 of the Garde du Corps.
His cousin was: Kurt-Ludwig Heinrich Georg Max Erdmann Eberhard 24.9.1885 of the Garde Kürassier Regiment.

Heinrich Curt Ludwig Erdmann Georg 26.8.1891
This was Kurt's older brother known as Heini.
He is wearing the uniform of the Kaiserliches Freiwilliges Automobil-Corps. These were the guys who volunteered themselves and their personal automobiles to the service of the Kaiser. They were later recognized as officers and eventually became part of the army. |
Adelheid Lucy Fredine Henriette Gabrielle 4.5.1897
This is Kurt's sister who was known as Gabrielle-probably for the single reason that that was also her mother's name. |
|
 |
Georg Lucian Curt Eberhard Erdmann 25.8.1892
Kurt's other older brother, who was in some way disabled.
His ticket relieving him of military responsibilities due to his disability is on the left.
|
| Kurt received his Saxon Albert Order-Knight 2nd Class with Swords (SA3bX) 19 October 1917 as "KP Pr. Leutnant Graf von Haugwitz-Hardenburg-Reventlow" in "Kavallerie Division Nord." |
